This Nehru collar jacket is cut from a honeycomb-effect wool and cashmere fabric. Honeycomb is a tradition at Hollington, as it gives texture, thickness and personality to the fabric. The high-quality yarn is reminiscent of the carded effect of fine Isle of Lewis tweeds. The raw material (wool) comes exclusively from Italy, from the Marche, Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia regions. The wool is dyed using ecological and environmentally friendly processes. The thickness of the fabric makes for a garment that is both warm and lightweight, like a cardigan but with lots of pockets.
Refined season after season since its creation in the early 1980s, the Tyrol jacket is one of our iconic styles. Like the well-kept secret it is, the sophistication of its cut is entirely concealed by the purity of its lines — a hallmark of the house.
Its Nehru collar — slightly higher than a Mao collar and finished with a notch — is the key to its elegance. Better known as “Pandit,” Jawaharlal Nehru was a leading figure in India’s independence movement. He was instrumental in the founding of a modern and secular state, and also had the good taste to wear shirts and jackets with a collar similar to that of hollington garments. Unless, of course, it was the other way around.
Originally, the Tyrol was a loose-fitting, straight-cut jacket. A few years ago, we developed its sister version with a slightly more tailored silhouette to meet the desire for a closer-fitting style. Naturally, nothing was sacrificed in terms of comfort, and its back pleat still allows the same freedom of movement as the original cut.
Italian artisanal quality is reflected in the stitching of this jacket, with every finishing detail crafted by hand in small-scale workshops — a testament to hollington’s commitment to excellence and traditional craftsmanship.
Because at hollington every detail is carefully thought out, the buttons are made from natural materials. They are crafted from horn or corozo — a natural ivory extracted from the albumen of the palm fruit.
Its three characteristic patch pockets are both deep and discreet, securely attached with impeccable stitching. This double and symmetrical seam respects the garment’s architectural structure.
Inside, two pen pockets and four zipped pockets effortlessly accommodate everyone’s many essentials.
